I am a full professor in the Department of Economics at Simon Fraser University. My research agenda lies at the intersection of political economy and development economics, with emphasis on the connections between institutions, governance, and well-being. My work has appeared in numerous scientific journals, including the Journal of Political Economy, the American Economic Review, and the Review of Economic Studies.

In 2013, I received the Sterling Prize in Support of Controversy, and in 2019 I was awarded the Dean's Medal for Academic Excellence.

I am a member of the Canadian Statistics Advisory Council and the Canadian Economic Association Executive Committee, a past president of the Canadian Women Economists Committee, and a past member of the SFU Board of Governors.
